Congratulations!  You've reached the website of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association, with churches in 31 cities of southern Los Angeles County.  Welcome!  We exist to Resource, Assist, Coach, and Equip the leadership of local churches, empowering them to make disciples and launch new churches and ministries.  We are here to empower our pastors and church leaders to run their RACE--Resource, Assist, Coach, and Equip!

40 Weekdays of Prayer for the Pastors, Churches, Cities, and Requests of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association.  See Prayer Resources above for full lists and definition of "SIG Alert."

Day 35 – Isaiah 55.6-8: “Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while he is near.  Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts.  Let him turn to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him, and to our God, for He will freely pardon.  For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways.” declares the Lord.

  1. Pray that the people of Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association area will find their hearts hungry and thirsty for God and His will for them, become weary of their wicked ways, and be drawn by God to Him in sincere repentance.  Pray that the ministries of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association congregations and association will be founded on God’s truth, anointed by God’s power, and funded by God’s people.  Pray that each church will be blessed with growing and fertile prospect files, and that plateaued, declining, and even dead churches will be renewed, revived, and resurrected to provide the ministries that God desires to the lost around us.
  2. Pray for Bro. Les Higgins and his wife Tasha and family, as they plan a new church start called Grace and Truth Church.
  3. Pray for Chaplain (Capt.) Ben Skelton, his wife Heather and their son Curtis, as he ministers at the Los Angeles Air Base in El Segundo.
  4. Pray for new collegiate ministries and church plants in southern California colleges and universities.  Pray for Rev. Neil Walker, campus minister at USC.  Pray for the 2016 Ignition CSBC Youth Evangelism Conference on December 28-30, 2016, in Ontario, the 2,000+ youth and leaders who will attend, the mission projects, the growth of the youth groups, and the staff and volunteers who will make it possible by the empowering of the Holy Spirit.
  5. Pray for the homes where lives are being destroyed by sins of various kinds, including domestic violence, abuse, gambling, pornography, substance abuse, and idolatry of all types.  Pray that the transforming gospel will cause these lives and homes to be made new creations by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Thoughts for Thinking: (Changed Mondays & Thursdays.)

Prayerlessness is an insult to God.  Every prayerless day is a statement by a helpless individual, ‘I do not need God today.’  –Ben Jennings

Only he who believes is obedient, and only he who is obedient believes.  –Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Christians often think we are doing the Lord’s work when we are not.  Jesus Himself warned us about this.  We cannot serve two masters.  The one we choose will determine whether at our death we hear, ‘Well done good and faithful servant,’ or ‘I never knew you.’  –Daniel Weiss

This is not a job for the timid. Time wasted, reputation tarnished, money not well spent – these are all by-products of creativity gone awry.  —Forbes contributor Steven Kotler

Whatever you do in life, surround yourself with smart people who’ll argue with you.  —John Wooden, one of the most successful basketball coaches of all time.

Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.  —Nido Qubein.  RG--Excellent word!

The next time you are tempted to sin, think about Jesus praying for you in heaven—praying “that your faith should not fail.” And praise Him that He is your partner in prayer.  —Dr. David Jeremiah

Art, like morality, consists in drawing the line somewhere.  —G. K. Chesterton

When you pay high for the priceless, you’re getting it cheap.  —Joseph Duveen

Life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent of how I react to it.  —Charles Swindol

If you look at what you have in life, you'll always have more. If you look at what you don't have in life, you'll never have enough.  —Oprah Winfrey

Remember no one can make you feel inferior without your consent.  —Eleanor Roosevelt

Many people mistake our work for our vocation.  Our vocation is the love of Jesus.  --Mother Teresa (Agnes Gonxha Bojarhiu)

I do not pray for success.  I ask for faithfulness.  --Mother Teresa (Agnes Gonxha Bojarhiu)

You never achieve real success unless you like what you are doing.  --Dale Carnegie

If something is worth doing, it is worth doing well.  If something is worth doing, it also worth doing poorly!  If something is worth doing, then it is worth doing--period!  --Richard Graham.  Cf. with Theodore Roosevelt’s quote about the man in the arena, who is criticized by others.

A conversation, sometimes with a critic or one’s self: “That’s a lot of work!”  “Maybe that’s why I’m called to it, and you are not!”  “That’s a lot of work!”  “Maybe that’s why we are called to it, and others are not!  Maybe that’s why we were born now, and not then, are living here, and not there, and see this multitude of lost around us, and not another somewhere else!”  --Richard Graham

Go weeping, and you will return bearing precious sheaves!  That’s the promise of  Psalm 126:6.  Two steps: go, and go with such compassion that it brings tears.--Richard Graham

The North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention (NAMB) and HELPLINK make the documents related to the following issues available as general informational help to anyone who is interested. Neither the NAMB nor HELPLINK consider the HELPLINK documents to be advice or counseling. Readers should not assume that HELPLINK documents are substitutes for professional counseling as provided by mental health professionals, legal counselors, or religious practitioners.

The primary purpose of HELPLINK documents is to illustrate that a real relationship with God in Jesus Christ is relevant to real issues of living. HELPLINK documents further illustrate how Bible guidelines contribute to living a full and meaningful life.
