40 Days of Prayer for the Pastors, Churches, Cities, and Requests of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association.  See Prayer Resources above for full lists and definition of "SIG Alert."

Today's SIG Alert!

Day 8 – Luke 11.5-8: Then he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and says, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.’  Then the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me.  The door is already locked, and my children are with me in bed.  I can’t get up and give you anything.’  I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his friend, yet because of the man’s boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.”

  1. Pray that we will understand that bold intercession for needs, and especially the will of God in this world, are of major importance to God, and always pleasing to Him.
  2. Pray for the Antioch Church of Long Beach, their pastor Rev. Wayne Chaney, his wife Myesha and their family, their church leaders, and congregation.
  3. Pray for New Hope Community Church of El Monte, their pastor Rev. Gil de la Rosa, his wife Eva and their family, their church leaders including deaf pastor Rev. Steve Lucero and his wife Rosalinda, and associate pastor Rev. Charlie Corum, and congregation.
  4. Pray for the city of Gardena, for their elected and appointed officials, for their citizens, and for God’s will to be done in that city.
  5. Pray that Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association churches will give generously to the Cooperative Program throughout the year, and the California Missions Offering which is received each fall.  Pray that our churches will also give generously to the work of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association, their first resource agency.

The goal isn’t to get people to church; the goal is to get people to Jesus.  —unknown

I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.  —Charles Spurgeon

Seven Navy SEAL Sayings, and his notes from article by Brent Gleeson:

--The only easy day was yesterday.  If you wake up knowing that every day will pose new challenges and that you are ready to face them head-on, you will be well equipped to achieve any goal you set.

--Get comfortable being uncomfortable.  Discomfort comes in many forms. But the more you embrace that as a reality, the wider your comfort zone becomes. This boosts confidence and provides the tools for facing even larger challenges down the road.

--Don’t run to your death.  Have a good plan, slow down, grow intelligently, and never, ever, run to your death.

--Have a shared sense of purpose.  There are many moving parts, which is why it's critical for the leadership to always be communicating the reality of the situation and what the "win" will look like when you get there. And, most important, what everyone's role is in helping the team achieve that goal.

--Move, shoot, communicate.  Move: You have to be able to work as one well-maintained mechanism with the ability to have constant fluid motion. Shoot: That's self-explanatory. Communicate: All good teams have frequent, open, transparent communication. When the bullets start flying, everyone needs to know what the next move is.

--No plan survives first contact with the enemy.  --Helmuth won Moltke, German field marshall from WWI.  Mike Tyson put it this way, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.”

--All in, all the time.  “Now is the time to dig deep.  Leave everything you’ve got on that field.  If you do that, win or lose, you will be the champions!  --flag football coach of 8-year-olds.

According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly.  Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground.  The bee, of course, flies anyway, because bees don’t care what humans think is impossible.  —Jack Black
