Great Thoughts for Thinking: (Changed Mondays & Thursdays.)

No man can read the Bible and be lazy. Christianity increases a man's...capacity for labor.  --Booker T. Washington (Tuskegee Institute, May 24, 1900)

As a rule a person should get into the habit of reading his Bible. You never read in history of any great man whose influence has been lasting, who has not been a reader of the Bible. Take Abraham Lincoln and Gladstone. Their lives show that they have been readers of the Bible.  —Booker T. Washington

If you wish to properly direct your mind and necessarily your lives, begin by reading the book of all books. Read your Bible every day, and you will find how healthily you will grow.  --Booker T. Washington, (The Booker T. Washington Papers, Vol. 3: 1889-95, ed., Louis R. Harlan, Univ. of Illinois Press, 1974, p. 93)

You don’t’ have to be a fantastic hero to do certain things—to compete.  You can be an ordinary chap, sufficiently motivated to reach challenging goals.  –Sir Edmund Hillary

I can’t let my actions be predicated on how I’m perceived.  I’ve got to have something real.  –John Thompson

Act like you expect to get into the end zone.  –Joe Paterno

They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.  In their grey visions they obtain glimpses of eternity.  –Edgar Allan Poe

Determination gives you the resolve to keep going in spite of the roadblocks that lay before you.  –Denis Waitley

The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.  –Vince Lombardi

Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.  —Karl Barth

Social scientists have found that the fastest way to feel happiness is to practice gratitude.  —Chip Conley

I think I run my strongest when I run with joy, with gratitude, with focus, with grace.  —Kristin Armstrong

The sound of a small bell during a dark louder than the din of traffic outside your window during rush hour.  Surprise and differentiation have far more impact than noise does.  --Seth Godin

Life throws you knives.  You either catch them with the handle or the blade.  --Lionel Hollins

The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry our their dream.  --Les Brown

40 Days of Prayer for the Pastors, Churches, Cities, and Requests of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association.  See Prayer Resources above for full lists.

Today's SIG Alert!*

Day 34 – Psalm 5.3: In the morning, O Lord, You will hear My voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.

  1. Pray that we will begin our mornings in prayer and worship to our God. Pray that God will teach us how to wash away impure thoughts and attitudes as we refresh our hearts and minds with the Word of God.
  2. Pray for CrossBay Community Church, their pastor Rev. Louis Brenes, his wife Medea Anne and their family, their church leaders, and congregation, in the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
  3. Pray for Long Beach City Church, their pastor Rev. Tom Hunter, and his wife Michelle and their family, their church leaders, and congregation.
  4. Pray for Rev. Franklin Williams and his wife Mable, as they seek God’s will for their lives.
  5. Pray that the congregations who need facilities will be given them by our Lord, and that all needy buildings of our congregations will be repaired.  Pray that the pastors of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association will preach Jesus Christ and His Word alone, in full and active demonstration of the Holy Spirit’s power.  Pray that emotional and spiritual healing will be given wherever needed in our churches, and that all believers of the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association will rely on the power of the Holy Spirit as they witness of Jesus Christ to the lost people groups around us.
  6. Pray for the Long Beach Harbor Southern Baptist Association ASSISTeam, who work to help churches improve their Sunday School and Bible Study work: Lizz Bell, Don and Debra Ford, Helen Harris, and Essie Allen.
