Great Thoughts for Thinking: (Changed Mondays & Thursdays.)
Sin is what you do when your heart is not satisfied with God. —John Piper
When we are weak, then are we strong. When most empty of self, we are most full of God. —Charles Hodge
The voices of childhood echo throughout life. The first learned is generally the last forgotten. —C.H. Spurgeon
A day when you have worked hard brings a blessed sleep. A life in which you have fulfilled what you’re doing brings a blessed death. --Leonardo de Vinci
As long as there is one upright man, as long as there is one compassionate woman, the contagion may spread and the scene is not desolate. --E. B. White
An expert is a man who has stopped thinking because “he knows.” --Frank Lloyd Wright
The reason most people never reach their goals is that they don’t define them, or ever seriously consider them as believable or achievable. Winners can tell you where they are going, what they plan to do along the way, and who will be sharing the adventure with them. –Denis Watley
It was courage, faith, endurance, and a dogged determination to surmount all obstacles that built this bridge. –John J. Watson
We do not so much need the help of our friends as the confidence of their help in need. –Epicurus
A few years ago Margaret and I visited the Nobel Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. We spent hours listening to lectures and reading about people who have made a difference in so many lives. Our tour guide shared something with us that day that surprised us. He said very few of the Nobel Prize winners ever did anything significant after they had been recognized for their achievements. I found it hard to believe, but after doing some research I concluded that he was correct. Daniel McFadden, who received the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2000, said, “If you’re not careful, the Nobel Prize is a career-ender. If I allowed myself to slip into it, I’d spend all my time going around cutting ribbons.” Literature winner T. S. Eliot stated it even more strongly: “The Nobel is a ticket to one’s own funeral. No one has ever done anything after he got it.” --John Maxwell
Most people spend their entire lives on a fantasy island called ‘Someday I’ll.’ In other words, they think, Someday I’ll do this. Someday I’ll do that. Someday I’ll be rich. They don’t live in the world of reality. --Author and speaker Denis Waitley
Either you deal with what is the reality, or you can be sure that the reality is going to deal with you. --Roots author Alex Haley
Next time I’d like to figure out a way to recognize individual effort at every level of the company over the course of the year, not just hold a group celebration at the end. People would remember how they achieved their own mini-goals in the trenches leading up to the great victory. The true successful rainmaker doesn’t just develop people. He or she creates other rainmakers.
Before hiring a star no one knows, search for diamonds in your company that need a fresh cut--especially people who have a reputation for helping others succeed.
Don’t fall for mistaken passion or into muddy rivers. (as in Colossians 2:4).
